Just. Breathe.

breathe

There are so many good reasons to breathe.

Here are the key points that I learnt so far.

The first is: If we don’t breathe, we die. Fact.

There are also many other health benefits.

  • Our stress levels go down. Our mind is clearer.
  • We make better decisions.
  • We improve our immune system.

However, it is important to remember that we need to breathe correctly. Here, ‘correctly’ means DEEPLY. So breathing all the way in….. and all the way out….

I have come up with a very easy 3-step plan on how to do this:
1. Breathe in. Breathe out.
2. Breathe in. Breathe out.
3. Breathe in. Breathe out.

SLOWLY. So, breathe in for four seconds and breathe out for 6. A long out-breath is important, because it makes you feel more relaxed.

Why is this important for my confidence, Victoria?

Because if you are more relaxed, you calm down.

When you are calm, you can think clearly.

When you think clearly, you are happier, more peaceful and MORE CONFIDENT.

So be kind to yourself today and breathe in. And breathe out.

You ARE more than grammar

It’s so easy to get lost when you’re learning a language. There just seems to be so much STUFF to learn! So many words, so many structures, so many phrases… So much grammar…

It’s easy (when you’re lost) to forget that learning a language is actually about fun. It’s actually about the opportunities it gives you. It’s actually about feeling really cool and sexy when you FINALLY master that phrase / structure / whatever.

So I’m here to tell you….

YOU ARE MORE THAN GRAMMAR.

Say it now. ‘I am more than grammar.’

Now say it louder.

Now say it louder while smiling.

Now say it LOUDER while smiling at yourself in the mirror.

I don’t know what your opinion is about affirmations. Some people think they’re stupid, some people think they’re amazing. Some people don’t know what they are.

Let me tell you a secret. I didn’t know what they were. Then I thought they were stupid. Then I thought they were amazing. Now I know that they can help when learning a language.

An affirmation can help you change what you believe about something. So if you believe that learning a language is difficult / boring / stupid / unfair, then this might be the affirmation for you.

So next time it all feels too much, say this: ‘I am more than grammar.’ Say it and remember…

… you are more than the mistakes you make

… you are more than your grades

… you are more than your homework

… you are more than the list of phrasal verbs you don’t understand

Say it and relax. You are more than grammar. So go and have fun with the language and don’t stress so much. It will be OK.
